What to Think When You Think You're Not Enough
“I am not enough…”
Ever had that thought? If so, you aren’t alone.
Why do we think like that? There are so many better options available to you: “F*ck Yeah, I’m good enough. Just haven’t told many people yet!” “No one is better than me, so that must mean I’m doing alright.” “People don’t give a shit about judging me! They’re too busy judging themselves.” “How many people can I tell are awesome today?” “Even when I don’t feel great, I can help someone else not feel the same way.” “I am going to commit to being around people that make me see myself the way I am meant to be seen.”
A bad mindset is so strange, and yet we are all captivated by them. For the most part, you would never think the things about someone else that you do yourself. You would never say the things you say to yourself to someone else. It wouldn’t be loving to them. So, is it loving to you?
Mindset is just that. A mindset. You didn’t end up with it. You chose it. So, you can choose another one. A better one.
If you had the choice, would you rather pull a new car off the lot with flat tires? or fully inflated ones?
If you had the choice, would you buy rotten chicken for the grill? or the fresh stuff (without the sulfur smell).
You’d roll the good tires and not choose salmonella!
It’s the same with mindset. “I’m not good enough” is buying a 50k ride, but pulling out with only the rims. It’s choosing to grill the maggots off of the fetid meat before you eat. Mmmm.
In my regular coaching, my coach is always breaking my skull open with mind-blowing quotes just to prove a point. Truth is: No one feels like they are enough. That’s the whole of it. No one. Maybe psychopaths and narcissists, but we’re aiming a little higher.
“No one is you. And that is your power.”
I love that! No one can be who you can be. No one can do what you can do. No one has what you have. You are limitlessly, recklessly, boundlessly more you than you know what to do with. If anyone was more than enough, it’s you.
I’m starting a coaching podcast with a couple of great friends, also coaches. In this episode, inspired by a recent LinkedIn poll, we tackle “I’m not good enough.” You are the first to see this or any episode. The whole platform hasn’t been released yet. But, it feels like if you are wrestling with that mindset, this might be resourceful for you.
And since this is an upcoming project, we’d love your feedback and questions. Rock the comments and…Turn your life up to 11!
